Equities are seen opening higher amid positive global cues but is likely to remain through the day. The primary market will attract a lot of attention on Tuesday with the much-awaited mega IPO from Reliance Power, aimed at mobilising up to Rs 11,500 crore, opening for subscription. Each share is available in a price band of Rs 405-450, with a Rs 20 discount for retail investors.
US stocks rallied overnight after strong quarterly results from IBM relieved concerns about the global economy and spurred a broad rebound from last week's slide. Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 171.85 points, or 1.36 per cent, at 12,778.15, Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 15.23 points, or 1.09 per cent, at 1,416.25 and Nasdaq Composite Index added 38.36 points, or 1.57 per cent, at 2,478.30.
Asian stocks rose, led by technology companies, after Samsung Electronics and LG.Philips reported earnings that exceeded estimates pushing Japan's Nikkei up 0.48 per cent at 14,178.59 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng up 0.16 per cent at 26,509.32. Taiwan's TAIEX added 3.93 per cent to 8,494.36.
Monday, the National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed 0.11 per cent or 7 points higher at 6206.80. The index swung between the high of 6244.15 and low of 6172.
Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex ended at 20,728.05, down 0.48 per cent or 99 points. The index rose to 20,985.62 and touched a low of 20,661.90, intra-day.
Foreign institutional investors were net sellers of equity worth Rs 257.66 crore, while mutual funds net sold Rs 193.55 crore of equity, according to provisional data on NSE.
